Obey Giant AKA Andre the Giant has a Posse. A street art experiment in phenomenology by artist and skateboarder Shepard Fairey. Growing up I spent a lot of time in my mom’s skate shop/streetwear boutique in by RISD in Providence Rhode Island. I’d spend hours playing in the window displays surrounded by progressive counterculture graphic design. Despite tagging the side of my parent’s building, my mom supported a RISD student and upcoming artists by the name of Shepard Fairey. Giving him one of his first outlets to distribute his work on stencil sprayed skateboard decks, screen printed t-shirts, and of course the phenomenological sticker campaign. Today Obey remains as one of the most iconic brands representing the underlying values of skateboarding culture and streetwear. This story is a glimpse into my inspiration for Miami Beach Streetwear Look 007.
